NES Fircroft are delighted to be exclusively partnering with a Oil & Gas operations giant who are looking to add a Process and Process Safety Team Lead to work on their Oil Production facility in Basra, Iraq.

This role will be to join the client on a 28 day on 28 day off rotational basis. It offers a fantastic rate and contractor package as well as the opportunity to work on one the world premier onshore production facilities.

About role

The Process & Process Safety Team Lead is a pivotal role in the M&E organization that reports to the Engineering Manager. The principal accountability for providing deep process & process safety engineering expertise and judgment for site. Success in the role is dependent on a dynamic, rigorous, and comprehensive management of stakeholder interfaces across Operations, Major Projects and Sub-surface organizations.

Key Accountabilities
  • Day to day direction and prioritisation of Process & Process Safety (P&PS) engineering support to deliver safe, reliable, and compliant operations, including discipline leadership of engineers in Area Operations Support team and Maintenance & Engineering team.
  • Advisor and Technical Authority for P&PS Engineering discipline at site
  • Take lead in developing and maintaining the practices/procedures, work processes, technologies, and tools for P&PS Engineering.
  • Deliver innovative technology/commercial/strategy solutions that underpin extraordinary and significant benefits for the business.
  • Provide assurance on engineering compliance with applicable Standards, Specifications, Codes and Regulations. Ensure that non-conformities and temporary deviations are identified.
  • Champion the site nationalisation program by identifying & mentoring Iraqi nationals.
  • Improves and sustains discipline health and diversity for P&PS engineers, including managing competency, team size and recruitment in support of business priorities
  • Communicate P&PS lessons learned to the site Operations team, encourage, and promote a culture of sharing experience and continuous improvement.
  • Leads the prioritisation of work and allocation of resources for the discipline. Responsible for the quality of all work performed by the team.
  • Provides P&PS engineering expertise to delivery of regional actions. Leads on resolution of complex, multi-discipline technical issues where the dominant component is P&PS related.
  • Play a key role in major accident risks, providing technical expertise to mitigate/eliminate future risks.

Essential Education

BSc or BEng or MEng (UK), BSc (US), or international equivalent in Chemical engineering
or relevant engineering subject
Professional accreditation, such as Professional Engineer or Chartered Engineer.

Essential experience and job requirements
  • Relevant industry experience in brownfield Operations engineering environments and operational roles across the full value chain of hydrocarbon production facilities
  • Candidate to demonstrate a strong understanding of relevant industry P&PS engineering codes, standards, and practices (API, ASME, ISO, ), and relevant experience with key Process engineering tools such as Aspen HYSYS & Flare System Analyser, Pipesim. An equivalent strength in use and understanding of Process Safety tools such as Phast, Flaresim and Bowtie XP.
  • Have the ability to work through all levels of Process Engineering, from detail design reviews to strategic intent.
  • Have experience in leading a behavioural change programme in Process Safety culture
  • Deep technical and operations expertise in several areas related to the discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to network and influence across organisational boundaries
  • Comprehensive safety leadership and coaching in all work environments
  • Analytical capability for the interpretation of uncertain data using appropriate numerical tools
  • Contract and contractor management and development of performance systems/tools and reporting

Desirable criteria and qualifications
  • Experienced in the development and delivery of Continuous Improvement projects
  • Experienced in application of agile methods for scope development and delivery
  • Key skills include communication, interpersonal relationships, facilitation, influencing, and negotiating
  • Ability to develop others and foster diverse relationships in a multicultural environment
  • Ability to identify correct priorities of maintenance and engineering support activities
  • Ability to identify and assess safety hazards; seeing what others may not: speaking up, early recognition of risks, opportunities and solutions – in particular when working outside of familiar technologies, codes and standards.
