About the job:

The successful candidate will report to the Electrical and Instrumentation Discipline Manager and will be assigned to various projects associated with the Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals industry as directed by the Project Management group.

Travel Requirements - 2 weeks (every month) to the Owner's project/office location in USA.

Roles and responsibilities:
  • Experience in electrical engineering & design for new plants and modifications/replacements of existing equipment in process plants for projects in various phases such as conceptual studies, Front End Engineering Design (FEED), detailed design (EPC) project
  • Assigned as Owner's engineer to review the work performed by other EPCs, and work proactively with the Owner's team and EPC to ensure the project objectives are met efficiently.
  • Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, managing schedule and budget, and reporting to meet project goals/targets.
  • Establishing the scope of work, effort hour estimates and deliverable lists.
  • Review of LV & MV Single Line Diagrams with strong knowledge of Relay and metering systems associated with substations and e-houses.
  • Review Protection control & metering diagram.
  • Review Load List and electrical equipment sizing.
  • Review electrical system studies using ETAP or SKM to develop load flow, short circuit, arc flash, harmonic and motor starting the analysis, protection/relay coordination and setting files.
  • Review electrical design and engineering calculations (Transformer sizing, Cable sizing, NGR sizing, MCC sizing, grounding calculation etc.)
  • Review Motor schematic and wiring drawings.
  • Knowledge of Interfacing with DCS, SCADA, PLC etc.
  • Review Electrical equipment specifications, data sheets and
  • Review material requisitions for quotation/purchase, technical bid evaluation, and purchasing requisitions.
  • Review electrical Area Classification
  • Review Substation Grounding study and Grounding Grid Layout
  • Review outdoor/indoor Substation Equipment layout.
  • Review Heat Tracing design
  • Review vendor designs for compliance with Technical Specifications and applicable standards.
  • Supervise, Coach, and support the team members on projects.
  • Review Electrical BOMs and major equipment costs for capital cost estimates at various project stages (Feasibility Study, FEED and Detailed Engineering)
  • Good writing skills to produce reports, scope documents and presentation materials.
  • Attending project team meetings, Client meetings and vendor review meetings
  • Establishing a good working relationship with the Clients. Strong client focus; able to represent the company professionally.
  • Reviewing designs for constructability and accordance with project requirements.
  • Performing field visits to validate existing drawings and confirm tie-in locations.
  • Demonstrate a high regard for safety, quality and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications/Skills Requirements:
  • A degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada.
  • Registered in the USA as PE will be an asset.
  • A minimum of 15 years of experience in the design of Electrical distribution systems in Oil & Gas Facilities.
  • Knowledge of domestic and international codes (CEC, CSA, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, API, NEMA, etc.)
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Leadership skills, team player, Proven multi-tasker with strong organizational skills.
  • Prior experience in PMC role, will be an asset
