The Regulatory Affairs Manager promotes the consistent and proper application of international marine regulations, fulfilling International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) obligations and effectively liaising with regulatory agencies. The Regulatory Affairs Manager will assist in developing, disseminating, and interpreting international marine regulations, as directed, to promote the consistent and proper application of rules.

What You Will Do:
  • Assist in developing, disseminating, and interpreting international marine regulations, as directed, to promote the consistent and proper application of regulations.
  • Provide effective liaison with flag Administrations, including technical support as needed.
  • Evaluate and coordinate the dissemination of instructions received from regulatory agencies.
  • Represent ABS at policy meetings called by various countries' regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain filing and listing of Delegation of Authorizations to perform statutory work on behalf of Administrations.
  • Assist in the development of Process Instructions and Interpretation/Instructions.
  • Monitor issues and regulations relative to safety issues and environmental protection that are undergoing international development.
  • Assist in fulfilling IACS obligations and providing technical coordination to IACS tasks, as directed.
  • Coordinate and assist in the development of responses concerning IACS policy issues.
  • Assist in providing information to maintain client awareness of developing issues and regulations.

What You Will Need:

Education & Experience
  • B.S. degree in civil, Structural, naval architecture, Ocean Engineering, Marine, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • M.S. is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Engineer/Surveyor or in an appropriate technical discipline and/or industry preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • A broad knowledge of marine engineering concepts and basic terminology, mainly addressed by international conventions and codes.
  • Knowledge and operation of personal computer and word processing.
  • Ability to communicate well, orally and in writing, and to professionally reorganize and present information internally and externally.
  • Good command of the English language.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • A general knowledge of how international maritime regulations are promulgated.
  • The ability to identify, analyze, and propose solutions to problems (i.e., the competence to demonstrate complex problem-solving skills).

Reporting Relationship:

This role will report to a senior-level management member.
