Job SummaryDescription

ConocoPhillips' Commercial business is responsible for marketing the company's global production and engaging in third-party marketing and trading. North America Gas and Power (NAGP) delivers competitive advantages for ConocoPhillips through industry leadership, first-in-class customer service, and unmatched operational reliability.

If you are selected as the ERCOT Power Trader, Marketer, you will be responsible for trading, portfolio management and managing relationships with key customers as well as engaging new ones in ERCOT. This role will be essential to the success of the Commercial team, and requires the ability to build value through evaluating, recommending, and executing trading and marketing strategies.
Job Description
Your responsibilities may include:
  • Generating value from physical and financial trading initiatives in support of the growth and optimization of the ConocoPhillips gas and power portfolio in the U.S.
  • Identifying and executing well-adapted marketing and trading strategies within the ERCOT market
  • Monitoring and communicating changing supply/demand fundamentals within the ERCOT market
  • Conducting analysis and providing pricing for ERCOT customers and internal stakeholders
  • Building and maintaining lasting relationships with customers in the ERCOT market
  • Identifying opportunities for new business with customers in collaboration with originators, traders and schedulers for power and gas
  • Ensuring activities and recommendations are aligned with COP internal policy and procedures as well as defined risk, credit and contract parameters
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with key internal partners such as physical and financial gas trading desks, scheduling, structuring, risk, contracts, credit, accounting, compliance and legal
  • Engaging customers through presentation of market fundamentals and ConocoPhillips' marketing messaging

Basic/Required:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Math, Science, other related field, or foreign equivalent
  • 5 or more years of experience in power trading or related activity
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft O365 applications: Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams and Word
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to travel overnight 25% of the time on a yearly basis
  • Willing and able (with or without reasonable accommodation) to work after hours, weekends and holidays as needed

Preferred:
  • 3 or more years of ERCOT Power trading experience
  • Advanced understanding of ERCOT power market
  • Advanced understanding of all energy (DAM, RT) and ancillary markets
  • Advanced understanding of locational basis and congestion trading
  • Advanced knowledge of risk management concepts and tools
  • Recognized as an industry leader
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative, multifaceted trade floor environment
  • Efficient verbal and written communication skills to provide updates to originators, asset managers, traders, and schedulers
  • Builds positive relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals and provide outstanding customer service to internal and external stakeholders
  • Delivers positive results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Drives thoughtful and pragmatic change, inspires innovative thinking and continuous improvement, and models adaptability through resourcefulness, flexibility, and positivity
